Kohima, September 10 (MExN): St Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, successfully hosted its 10th Eureka Science Fest on August 28 and 29 under the theme “Science and Sustainability: Solutions for a Better Tomorrow”. The two-day event drew students from diverse departments to celebrate innovation, creativity, and scientific curiosity.The inaugural ceremony at the College Indoor Stadium opened with a prayer by Phaomel Dichungulu and a welcome song by Botany 3rd Semester students. Delivering the welcome address, Dean of Science Dr Fr Gigi Thomas emphasized the importance of innovation, stating that “today’s science is tomorrow’s technology”. The keynote address on “A Holistic Approach in Health” was delivered by Dr Fr Godfrey Vilasal Thapo, Director of the Global Holistic Health Centre Research & Training Institute, who stressed physical well-being, positive thinking, responsible choices, and balance.The first day featured a Science Exhibition, Quiz Competition, and Spelling Bee, while the second day hosted a Dance Competition, a Fancy Dress Competition focused on sustainability and the Three R’s (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle), and the Eureka Idol competition.In the competitive events, the Department of Physics (5th Semester) secured first place in the Science Model competition, while the Department of Zoology won the Quiz and Dance categories. The Department of History claimed first place in the Spelling Bee, Fancy Dress, and Eureka Idol events.Concluding the fest, Dr Fr Gigi Thomas congratulated participants, encouraging students to prioritize learning and participation over results. He also expressed aspirations for the fest's future growth through expanded student opportunities, including internships and new competitive segments.
